Sizing & Fit
Approaching Sizing at The System
At The System, sizing is approached through two streams: Bespoke Sizing and Ready-to-Wear.
Bespoke Sizing
For bespoke garments, there is no fixed sizing system—each piece is made to the individual, considering precise measurements, posture, and proportions. This ensures a fit that is both intentional and personal.
Ready-to-Wear Sizing
Ready-to-wear pieces follow Australian standard sizing as a base, but we recognize its flaws. To create a more intuitive system, we reference multiple international size charts—including European, American, and Japanese systems—to find the most effective way to communicate fit.
Samples are typically made for a small male body, based on a 28” waist and a 36/46 jacket size. If you're unsure about fit, we encourage reaching out for guidance or alterations.
Custom Order
This process allows the clientele to order styles that exist in our collection that have not yet been produced, or that have been produced in sizing or colour-ways that don't suit them. For a small increase in the price of the ready-to-wear style, the client can make requested changes. This is based on fabric availability and done through communication with the brand directly.

An important missing factor from these standardised sizing charts are lengths. At the System we see lengths as variable and use straight lines at key areas in our design to allow for adjustments at the pattern stage of garment production. This means that a custom order process can be much less involved than bespoke and allows for the clientele to order pieces from the collection with adjusted fits in a number of weeks rather than designing from scratch.
